St. John’s Whitby and the Highway of Heroes Tribute

I was very lucky to attend at St. John’s Anglican Church in Whitby where the Church and the Community Garden Program donated lands for tree planting for The Highway of Heroes Tribute – A Tree For Every Hero.  St. John’s land runs along the Hwy 401 and south to Victoria street in Whitby.  The HOH Tribute goal is to plant 117,000 trees along the 170 kilometre portion of the highway stretching from CFB Trenton to the Don Valley Parkway.   One tree for every fallen Canadian Soldier since Confederation.    225 trees were planted on the lands donated by St. John’s.

Prior to planting speeches were given.  The Mayor and many Local MPs, MPPs and Mark Cullen attended and helped plant the first tree.  St. John’s parish, the surrounding community and many local corporations volunteered, donated materials, trees, and labour to make this event a success.
